Climbing from Good to Great

Overview

The 2010 Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) National Forum took place in Denver, Colorado on June 2-4, 2010.

This conference was designed to attract innovators and nurture faculty leaders for the improvement of quality and safety education through exposure to innovations in curricular design and teaching strategies that accomplish QSEN competency development, research related to quality and safety education in pre-licensure and advanced practice programs, and quality improvement or safety studies.

Keynote Speakers

Rosemary Gibson, BS, MSc

A writer and thought leader in U.S. health care. She is the author of Wall of Silence: The Untold Story of the Medical Mistakes that Kill and Injure Millions of Americans and the forthcoming (2010) book, The Treatment Trap, which puts a human face on the overuse of unnecessary medical treatment. Ms. Gibson recently completed 16 years as Senior Program Officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where she was the chief architect of its $200 million national strategy to establish palliative care in the mainstream of the U.S. health care system.

Linda Cronenwett, PhD, RN, FAAN

Professor, School of Nursing, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and principal investigator of QSEN, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She served as co-chair of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Identifying and Preventing Medication Errors and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, and the North Carolina Center for Hospital Quality and Patient Safety.

Other Conference Features

Concurrent sessions with presentations and posters by colleagues who are leading innovators in quality and safety education.

Workshops led by quality/safety education leaders and expert panels, VA Quality Scholars Program, Advances in Simulation Using QSEN, Reflective/Narrative Pedagogies Using QSEN, and QSEN Curriculum Integration Strategies.

Registration Fees Due to generous grant support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, registration fees for the conference were only $100.

Location and Reservations

The conference took place in the Westin Westminster Hotel (between Denver and Boulder, Colorado).
