Faculty Learning Module 9
Managing Curricular Change for QSEN Integration
Introduction
This module discusses change management strategies that can be used to integrate quality and safety into the existing curricula. The module includes the Quality and Safety Curricular Integration Framework as a tool to guide faculty in the change process. The framework is proposed as “a recipe for success.” At the core of this framework is the education of faculty members and coordination of the QSEN concepts into the curriculum. This core work is supported by interprofessional and inter-institutional clinical partners and a faculty member who serves as a link between the practice environment and the school of nursing. Other key factors include internal support, champions, motivators, and a culture of change, and tools to optimize these factors are included.
Objectives
Upon completion of this section, you will be able to:
Identify two components of the curricular integration framework
List two tools to assist with communicating the QSEN journey
Develop a timeline for quality and safety integration at your school of nursing
State two motivating strategies that have potential at your school of nursing

Content
The process of embedding QSEN competencies across the curriculum can seem daunting and many faculties struggle with where to begin. In this module, Mary Dolansky will introduce a framework developed at the Francis Payne Bolton School of nursing and describe how this framework assisted faculty to undertake and sustain the change process.

Discussion
After you have reviewed the module presentations and resources, consider how this material is relevant to your own work and experience. The following is a list of questions for self-reflection or for use in class.
Think about the programs in your school of nursing, who would be effective champions and task force members?
What other motivational strategies can you think of that would be appropriate for leadership buy in?
Who are the clinical partners important for you to network with to bridge the academia-practice gap?
What policies and evaluation strategies can you implement to ensure that clinical faculty integrate quality and safety?
